BENJAMIN BJÖRKLUND
“I used to worry a lot about being technically good enough, but I've realized that it's something else. I think the most important thing is to have a sincere motivation and to be tenacious”
BENJAMIN BJÖRKLUND
Born in Trollhättan, near the west coast of Sweden, Benjamin Bjorklund has a varied proffesional career as a prison night guard, psychiatric nurse and veterinary technician. As a painter, he gets influences from classic and current experiences for his oil and watercolor creations.
He lives in Uppsala, Sweden, where he has spent most of his time. Ben enjoys a simple life based on a small 19th century rustic farm shared with his great Dane Ruben and a collection of pets including rabbits, guinea pigs, mice and rats.
Looking for inspiration in everyday life, Benjamin interprets through his paintings the emotions and the characters and beings that surround him. He keeps his compositions and focal points as simple as possible to ensure emotional closeness to his subjects .. Pictorial subjects like his dog Solomon, wild and domestic animals and family members are frequent subjects, although he also works from old photos and memories as references.
The figurative and portrait work of Björklund can, at times, represent scenes that border on the surreal, picking up the influence of the beings that surround him physically and emotionally.
The work of Benjamin Björklund is found in public and private collections around the world such as London, NY, LA, San Francisco, Melbourne and throughout Sweden and Europe.
