“A modern take on composition,
drawing & color in portrait painting”
OBJECTIVES AND CONTENT
The main focus of this course will be portrait painting, but built into it we will go trough all elements of contemporary realism painting and a modern perspective on portrait painting.
We will underline the importance of visual language and formal composition as a base for getting artistic results.
We will interconnect drawing and painting; thinking about painting through drawing and thinking about drawing through painting.
Denis will cover another essential topics like:
- Color and value and their primary importance in painting
- Different techniques and artistic approaches
- Color theory made easy.
- Academic education or self employment in art.
- Anatomy for artists and for portrait and figurative artists especially.
In this course, different exercises will be proposed:
- Exercises for improving your feel of color
- Exercises in drawing to feel 3d shape and transfer it to 2d
- Tips, tricks and tools to find interesting composition for your paintings.
During the online session Denis will also share about three hours video of his portrait painting demo from photo reference. Plus some short videos of him working from life, color exercises etc.
COURSE CONTENT
The course will keep you engaged during 2 weeks, learning and working guided interactively by the teacher. The course is aimed at any artists who wants to expand their vision about painting.
You will get:
4 Live online Sessions: You will have 4 days of live online sessions, 3 with lectures, demos and Q&A and a final one for discussing the students exercises results, general advice from the teacher and Q&A (See schedule in program)
Each live session will last 2 hours where the artist will develop the teaching program. The sessions will be recorded and available for one entire day after the day of the live session in case is difficult for you to attend due to time zone or other reasons.
Exercises program: The teacher will propose specific exercises during the live online sessions sharing with you lectures, examples or demos solving the questions that may arise.
Feedback & Critique: From the deadline of receipt of your exercises you will be receiving a general feedback and a personal comment to your work from the teacher.
Q&A: You will be able to ask all your questions during the time reserved for them in each online session. We will try to answer all individual or grouped questions both during the live events and those that you can send us offline when you submit your exercises.
Syllabus: You will receive a syllabus with process description,, material list, etc.
Interactive Visual platform: containing resources and all the participants works for you to learn also from your classmates. You will see different approaches and different painting styles for your inspiration.
